Do your employees use technology? What’s considered “Acceptable Use”?February 23rd, 2011 by Michael Giuffrida
There is so much technology available to us for both business and personal use which can be great for productivity, but also raises concerns. What do you consider acceptable use of these tools by your staff during business hours? Traditional thinking would have you create a 30 page Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) which restricted anyone from accessing anything that wasn’t strictly business use. No personal emails, no checking personal websites, no electronic files should ever leave the office! But in today’s world of high availability, that’s just not reasonable to keep employees happy and productive.
So what SHOULD you do to protect your organization? We have compiled this list of 5 questions you should ask yourself when developing an AUP for your organization. The answers to these questions will help you develop a plan that is both security conscious as well as flexible enough to help get the most out of your technology.
