How Do I Avoid Sales Calls on My Cell Phone?

Simple, sign up for the National Do Not Call Registry!

This month, cell phone numbers are going public, which means they are being released to telemarketing companies.  The time you spend on these calls will be charged to you!  This could potentially mean that telemarketers will increase your phone bill by running up your plan’s minutes.  By calling 888-382-1222 from your cell phone, your number will be blocked for the next 5 years.

Those who wished to avoid telemarketers on their home lines have been able to remain permanently on the Do Not Call list since February 2008 thanks to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007.  31 days after registering a phone number telemarketers are no longer allowed to call.  If they do a complaint can be filed against them by filling out a simple form.
Charities, political organizers and telephone surveyors are still allowed to call numbers on the Do not Call list.  Companies with which you have done business can still call you unless you ask them to stop calling you.  Debt collectors can also call you as long as they do not do so before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m.

  1. Since posting this, this morning we found out that it is a bit of a hoax. There is still no set deadline for getting your cell phone on the do not call list. However, it still may be a good idea to get your number on there. There is no harm in getting on the list, and why put it off until it does become a law? While telemarketers aren’t supposed to call cell phones, sometimes they do by accident. Avoid all the hassle by getting yourself on the list.
