Blogging is the latest craze - Is it time for me to
blog?
|
Blogging has
been around for several years now, and while at the beginning it
was reserved for computer geeks and those who just wanted to
complain about things, it has become a mainstream way to get
information into the marketplace and tell people about what you
know as an expert. This can help your web site search results, if
linked back in, as well as demonstrate your expert knowledge when
someone is looking for a expert.
You might say, "But I'm not a programmer, so I can't blog." Right?
Wrong. Blogging is easy. Here are 3 easy steps to getting
started:
1) Decide what you want to blog about. This can be anything with
regular original content. Think about what you are good at, and
write about it. You can see an example at
ForeSite's Blog where individual team members contribute about
the topic of their job functions.
2) Choose a free blog site like
Blogspot.com or
Wordpress.com. Sign up to create your blog by following some
easy steps and your blog will be set up in a few minutes.
3) Write your first post. This may not win you any Pulitzer Prizes,
but that's not the purpose. The whole idea of a blog is to get in,
get your ideas in writing, and get out. Then do it again and
again.
A couple of other things to consider:
- You may not want to publicize your blog until you get a few
posts out there. This will make you more comfortable and others
will feel like it is an established site.
- If you are going to blog, blog regularly. That can be every day
or once per month, but make sure you stay on top of it. The worst
thing you can do is put a few great posts out there and then
disappear. Your audience will think you have won the lottery and
gone to live under a palm tree somewhere and may not come back to
find out if they were right.
- Link back to your blog from other places like your web site,
your LinkedIn profile, and even your Twitter "tweets." (If these
are all new terms to you, stay tuned for a piece on social
networking next month.)
- Have some fun! This doesn't have to be another chore. Keep it
light and you and your readers will enjoy your posts.
Once you have become comfortable with blogging, you may want to tie
it into your regular web site for a consistent look and feel, and
company branding. If you do, contact ForeSite to see how we can
help.

How healthy is your business network?
|
During difficult economic times, ForeSite works hard to find new
ways to add value for our clients. As such, we have created a
process called the Network Health Review. This process is 100% free
and carries no obligation to the client, but provides valuable
information about the health of your business network. We know how
important it is to have your technology working for you - not
against you. We will evaluate your network in the following key
areas:
- Architecture
- Security
- Hardware Age/Warranty
- Maintenance Updates
- Data Backup
- Virus Protection
- Power Protection
- Disaster Recovery
- Technology Planning
We will help identify any areas of concern for you or give you
peace of mind that things are OK and stable. If you are interested
in hearing more, contact Tracy Fox at (860) 528-1100 x14 or via
email at tlf@foresitetech.com.
